A Worldwide Toast
02 / 2016
Sofie’s World is connecting beer women from all over the world to celebrate the 8th of March, International Women’s Day, with great beers.
Beer is still largely seen as a man's drink, and in the world of beer you will meet far more men than women. Yet women play a huge role in the history of beer, and everywhere in the world we are seeing a growth in the number of female brewers, beer experts and beer sommeliers.
The thing is that beer is not gender specific, beer is a wonderful drink that both women and men can enjoy. The Women and Beer project of Sofie's World has been battling against all false perceptions and prejudices about ‘women and beer’. Through workshops, events, media and the book ‘Beer, women know why’ we’ve managed to persuade thousands of women to choose a beer over the too often the obvious glass of white wine. By putting different beer ladies in the spotlight on our social media and YouTube channel, and to saying together on March 8 to celebrate International Women’s Day with a beer, we will definitively wipe out the stereotype that beer is just a man's drink forever.
What will happen?
Between 7 pm and 10 pm (GMT +1) we'll use Google Hangouts to connect women from all over the world
who have a passionate love for beer. That way we are creating the first café on the world wide web where you can toast to International Women’s Day with other (female) beerlovers from every possible country. We work with some central ambassadors in different cities but you're all invited to join and share your beer experience on our social media. The least we go for is to be the 'worldwide trending topic' on Twitter (#aperoglobal).
In Brussels Sofie will organize a central event where the experiences from all over the world will be regrouped and interactions organized. The event will take place in the pop-up bar of Visit Flanders, where press and guests will enjoy some great Flemish beers paired with the culinary creations of lady chef and Flanders Kitchen Rebel Marjanne Moonen of restaurant Amu. Beer is refined and a perfect companion for every kind of gastronomy, we'll prove it.
So please, ladies, invite some friends, have a great evening together with nice beers and share your pictures with us. Of course we'll only accept pictures of Women with a beer (no white wine, cocktail or whatever). Only some water in between is allowed :-) And don't forget to tag yourself !
How to toast with us :
Share your beer experience on Twitter using #aperoglobal
Say ‘cheers’ with a beer on our Facebook and tag yourself
Post your pictures on Instagram using #aperoglobal #womenlovebeer #sofiesworld #visitflanders
Let your imagination free but just make sure the world knows you love beer!
